Fathom Research is a member of the Association of Diving Contractors (ADC), and operates in accordance with the Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving set forth by the ADC. The following highlights our recent commercial diving projects.
(2008) Outfall Inspection, Gloucester, MA:
Performed an external high-resolution sonar survey, utilizing side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler and marine magnetometer along the sub-aqueous portion of the alignment of the outfall pipe (approximately 15,100 feet long, located in Gloucester Harbor / Massachusetts Bay), diffusers and adjacent areas within the outfall corridor were geo-referenced to a state plane grid and overlaid on a plan of the outfall alignment for detailed data presentation. The survey was used to assess the general condition of the outfall pipe. Existing conditions were identified and areas of potential concern (breaks in the pipe or external outfall pipe damage) and divers were provided to inspect the areas of potential concern. All work was conducted in accordance with US DOT guidelines.
(2007-2008) Transmission Cable Burial Depth Investigations, Boston Harbor, Boston, MA:
Provided project support with a surface-supplied air dive team using CCTV, still photography, and cable tracking technology to identify the location & burial depth of a harbor transmission cable. Visual verification of the cable’s location and burial depth was provided by the use of an in-house custom designed and manufactured Jet-Probe. The project was required prior to harbor dredging activities. Dive team operated with a five member crew, and established an in-water working time average of 8 hours a day.
(2007) Jamestown Bridge Demolition Debris Remediation And Removal, West Passage of Narragansett Bay, between North Kingstown and Jamestown RI:
Dive team utilized underwater hydraulic cut-saw and chain-saw equipment to remove bridge demolition debris from navigable waters. Debris consisted of wood piles, steel angle-iron, I-beam, H-beam and rebar. The dive team utilized surface-supplied air diving techniques in waters ranging from 15-80 feet deep. All underwater operations were recorded to DVD for Client, RI Department of Transportation and US Coast Guard verification.
(2006-2007) Outfall Construction Inspection, New Haven, CT:
Performed sub-aqueous inspection services for outfall extension construction project using CCTV and still photography, requiring the production of a DVD library for the bi-weekly investigations. The investigations were performed in coordination with on site engineers over the entirety of the eight month construction project. Inspections included 280’ pipeline penetrations of the 60” diameter PCCP outfall extension, in addition to external pipeline inspections and river bottom investigations. All work was conducted in accordance with US DOT guidelines.
